ISORANGE

We produce two different types of highly insulating covering compounds, sometimes referred to as anti-piping compounds:

  • ISOTOP "A" with 18 to 20% metallic aluminium.
  • ISOTOP "7" with 25% metallic aluminium.

The heating effect of these highly insulating covering powders is based exclusively on the oxidation of metal powders. There are no gaseous products of oxidation.

The bulk density of both types is about 0.6 to 0.7 g/cm3.

The products of oxidation arising from the combustion, frit the high grade filler into a porous and hard cover. Under this cover the liquid metal in the feeder can resist piping with extremely slight heat loss. The ISOTOP material is not wetted by the liquid steel, so there are no reactions with the steel which could alter the chemical composition of the base metal.

ISOTOP "A" should be used in conjunction with our ISOTHERM range of materials for feeder heads larger than 200mm diameter. When used to our recommended application rates, the M.E.F. factor is equal to our ISOTHERM bricks. The layer thickness must be at least 15% of the feeder diameter.

ISOTOP "7" can be used with insulated sleeve heads 200mm diameter or less. When used to our recommended application rates, the M.E.F. factor is equal to 1.45. The layer thickness must be at least 15% of the feeder diameter.

Our covering powder also has an added advantage in industrial hygiene, as it burns almost without the formation of smoke. Comparable to other anti-piping powders which entail an unavoidable formation of smoke because of the steam pressure of the reacting substances. Both ISOTOP materials combustion zones have a very slight layer thickness, as a result the critical temperature for smoke formation is quickly over.

PACKING

We can pack to foundry requirements but standard packing is in 25kg bag shrink wrapped on a wooden pallet (1000kg per pallet.)
